When we are talking about ROI for a website, we should not only focus on traffic as the only means of measuring the ROI for a website as just because the website gets hit by traffic, it doesn't guarantee higher sales. There are many ways to measure ROI.
Based on above, you can already tell there are many channels to measure your ROI. Hence, what is the ROI for a website. Facebook is a good example or social media in general. This is to invite fans and inform them of promotions. Blogs and twitter are another examples where the business owner can really promote services offered etc. Twitter is great since its basically an instant update. Media write ups are another category that greatly raise awareness.

Web Usability

Just like web accessibility, web usability should definitely be a topic that a website developer should pay attention to. Some of the things that to keep in mind for usability are listed below:
1- Efficiency: The structure of the site should be efficient...
2-Task Flow: the flow is important as a usable site has a page flow that must match with the workflow.
3-Replication: It's ok to use templates!
4-Testing for usability: Testing early is very important within the design stage. A designer should not wait till the end to do this. HTML, Javascript should be tested for compatibility.
5-Motivation: The design for the website should meet the specific needs of the user. The design should motivate different types of users to specific parts of the site.
6-Track the traffic: Keep track of which page gets hit the most. Which page do people spend less time and click right onto the next page immediately? The site can be adjusted accordingly.

Webform Podcast

The Webform Podcast was very interesting in a sense that it makes you think differently about new tools that search engines offer and what people really think about them. Luke is an ex-yahoo employee and throughout the podcast he was comparing his experience at yahoo with googles new "google instant". Other innovations that Luke mentioned were categorized in three areas-for desktop: 1- Rich interactions 2- Input can come from anywhere -basically people spend more time off your site then on your site even though they are connected but they are still not in your site therefore things like calendar, browser extensions etc should be incorporated in the design 3- Taking advantage of work people have done elsewhere; there are many built out platforms and we can have access to that information. Another thing that was mentioned was the whole topic of pictures and uploading them to a profile...Pictures and contact information make collaboration more rich....For the most part people use fake avatars as place holders and this has no personal effect. We all know that uploading a picture is a pain. If u can capture from another account u are done-from yahoo, gmail or any other site! By asking people to upload a photo they tend to log out and the rate of visiting the site drops by 40%Ping was another topic of discussion. Apple launched an i-tune social network- and the photo had to be approved from apple.I also agree that Ping is the worst product from apple.As Luke mentioned, the digital product with ping is poor because: 1-Ping profile ignorant of anything you did in i-tunes2-You have to put in your photo that needs to be approved by apple3-Your name needs to be same as the credit card on i-tunes and no nicknames allowed.Ping is a social network for the i-tunes store and not for itunes.

Visually Impaired and Web Accessibility

A large percent of Internet surfers are visually impaired. These individuals can be blind, colour blind or not have the vision they once had. It is very important for their needs to be recognized as well.

The visually impaired also use the same online services such as online shopping, or online banking- Thus, websites and web applications need not to ignore this group of people when designing their sites.

There are many browsers that have been developed for people with disabilities. Among those are products with optical character recognition, screen magnifier, screen readers, voice recognition, speech synthesizers, etc.

Use of Color on the Web

Use of color on the web is extremely important. Having the color palette for a site is crucial to brand your products or services and communicate with visitors. Even from a cultural standpoint, colors are interpreted vary from culture to culture. Choosing wrong colors can become a failure for websites!

Some key questions to keep in mind while trying to choose the right colors could be:

· Who are your site’s potential visitors?

· What are your products or services?

· What are your site’s key objectives?

I read in http://www.pallasweb.com/color.html that “If potential visitors come from a global or regional market, or exclusively from North America. Did you know that the color white symbolizes mourning in China, or that purple is the color of death in many Catholic countries? Yellow is an Imperial color in Chinese countries, but in America it may symbolize cowardliness or urine. More important, shifting colors to another area of the color spectrum can completely change their impact. For example, yellow shifted toward red results in a color that indicates gold or ‘having value.’” So it is important to keep the cultural piece in mind while picking out colors! I had never thought about it this way !

Text and background color selections do also affect readability, which can be an issue for visitors who are older those with visual impairments.

Sites built to Web Standards

The term web standards can mean diverse things to different people. For some, it is ‘table-free sites‘, for others it is ‘using valid code‘. However, web standards are much broader than that. A site built to web standards should adhere to standards (HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, XSLT, DOM, MathML, SVG etc) andpursue best practices (valid code, accessible code, semantically correct code, user-friendly URLs etc).
In other words, a site built to web standards should ideally be lean, clean, CSS-based, accessible, usable and search engine friendly.

Why do web standards matter?

There are numerous advantages to using web standards. Here are some highlights:

What is Information Architecture?

Website structure, also sometimes referred to as information architecture, describes the logical flow of content on your site. A site that is well structured tends to focus on one overall major theme, and branch out from that theme into pages that are continually more focused, specific, and relevant to the overarching topic of the site.

For instance, a well architected website selling Caribbean cruises would branch into sub-topics (sub-directories and/or sub-menus) that flesh out the main theme. These sub-areas of the site might focus on specific Caribbean ports of call, cruise lines, specials / deals, thematic cruises, local culture, and anything else relevant to Caribbean cruises.

I have always wanted to know more about how the domain structure for multilingual sites are. Upon visiting some good sites, I figured that there are many ways to handle sites that are created in different languages for these countries. It looks like the best method however, is to create country specific TLDs with unique sites and content. Localization is critical and ensure that for instance the Spain site has language specific to Spain, not Chile! Another comparable method is to create sub-domains for each language version. Another not quite desirable, is to create a directory structure that serves each language. In all cases, web writers need to make sure of the name of the directories that use the language of the country being served.

Thankfully, Google Webmaster Tools now permit us to indicate the language preference for directories and sub-domains.
The first method, of course, has many benefits, which include the ability to validate the domain in Google Webmaster Tools and specify the geographic location. International TLDs will be indexed and listed in specific language versions of search engines and regional directories, while many sub-domains and directory localization strategies will not be indexed and listed such.
Small international sites should be served with a version selector for each country-specific domain. This assists with spidering and allows users to choose the version of the site they are interested in using.

Writing for the Web

Chapter 5 begins with stating the differences between writing for print vs. web. It is interesting to see that being a good web writer isn’t that hard. Web writers need to be very cautious since people read differently online. As a Web writer - you better have the information the website visitor is looking for or else the reader will leave the site and will never come back! Here is a list of few techniques a web-writer can use to increase traffic and engage readers – after all, according to the authors of this book, good web writing is useful, usable, engaging and findable :

• Writing has to be easy to scan A lot of testing has been done on how long it takes for the average web surfer to decide if they are going to “bother” to read a web page, or just click away. The actual numbers vary, but are in the range of three to five seconds. It’s your job to present information in such a way that you can get the attention of your reader, and let them know that this is where to find the information they’re looking for – or not as the case may be.

• Avoid the passive voice
Get to the point immediately!!!

• Context needs to be there
If your information is being distributed via RSS, there should be enough context when not viewed in its original location.

• Good titles for the page and for any subsections
Descriptive titles are the key. This will direct the reader to find the information they are looking for a whole lot faster/descriptive title is used, it’s much easier for the reader to find the information they are looking for, especially if the information is being viewed out of context. It also helps out with the search engines.

• Tools, Process and Team
These are the top things needed to focus on having prior to even starting to write.

• Regular Updates for fresh information
People need to see new information to even be motivated to check the website out and revisit !

During class last time, we browsed the web and saw both great and poorly designed websites. It was interesting to point out the errors and what made us frustrated about the bad sites! All web writers need to keep in mind what would make a pleasant experience for the web users.

Software Design Patterns & Christopher Alexander

The History of Software Design Patterns:
After spending some time researching what design patterns actually were, I found out that a professor in architecture from Berkley, launched the California answer to the problem of design complexity in 1977. This professor was Christoper Alexander. His theory was explained in three books: The Timeless Way of building (1979), A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction (1977), and The Oregon Experiment (1975).

Patterns originated as an architectural notion by Christopher Alexander. So, what are patterns and their languages and what did Christopher Alexander have to do with this? Patterns and pattern languages for describing patterns are ways to explain good designs, describe best practices, and capture experience in a way that it is promising for others to reprocess this experience. In addition to the patterns, Alexander defined a set of rules e.g. a pattern language in which patterns could be meaningfully combined. Design pattern or computer science are extensively used by software engineers for the actual design process as well as for communicating a design to others.
According to an article on http://www.opensecurityarchitecture.org/cms/definitions/security_patterns,today we find patterns for many different areas in IT such as design patterns, architectural patterns and interaction design patterns but also security patterns. All these patterns use very similar pattern languages. It is interesting to observe how close all these pattern languages stick to the original language proposed by Christopher Alexander. The central argument of the Pattern Language is that, in the face of complexity, humans have evolved archetypal designs, which solve recurrent problems. These solutions are called patterns. In primitive societies, birds and humans had ways of using mud and grass to make dwellings. They remained constant from generation to generation. In modern societies, a greater range of patterns is available. Yet, the Pattern Language argues, there are still ways of doing things that, over an endless period of time, have satisfied complex human requirements. An ancient example is finding a choice location for an outdoor seat. Neglect of this pattern has led to a modern tragedy. Most outdoor seats in most towns are woefully sited: their locations are unprotected, isolated, noisy, windy, claustrophobic, too hot or too cold. The ancient pattern was to place a seat near a tree, with its back to a wall, in a sunny position with a good view (Figure 3.4). The archetype for this solution balances prospect with refuge. Jay Appleton, in The Experience of Landscape, sees this as a fundamental human need: it satisfies human desires for safety, comfort and a good vantage point ( Appleton, 1975). To avoid blunders, planners and designers must have this information.

Design Patterns are divided into 3 categories:

• Creational - the design patterns belonging to these category are used for creating objects. Using such a design pattern provides more flexibility where we require a control over the creation of objects. One very common use case is the usage of a creational design pattern to restrict the total number of instances of a class. Example: The Singleton Pattern, The Abstract Factory Method Pattern, etc

• Structural - as the name suggests this category groups all those design patterns which help the user to group objects into larger structures to meet the complex requirements in a structured way. A common use case is to use such a design pattern for designing a complex user interface. Example: The Adapter Pattern, The Proxy Pattern, etc.

• Behavioral - the patterns belonging to this category are used to define communication between objects of a proposed solution. In other words such design patterns helps defining the flow of a complex system. Example: The Chain of Responsibility Pattern, The Strategy Pattern, The Iterator Pattern, etc

Factory Method pattern is a simplified version of Abstract Factory pattern. Factory Method pattern is responsible of creating products that belong to one family, while Abstract Factory pattern deals with multiple families of products.

What is Oslo ?!

Oslo is a Microsoft model-driven application development platform intended to allow non-developers to build distributed applications. The initial version of Oslo won’t let a complete novice build applications, but it will ease development. According to eweek,The visual tooling for Oslo was known as Quadrant, the language was known as M and the repository, though unnamed, was based on Microsoft SQL Server. This was Microsoft's messaging leading up to the 2008 PDC (Professional Developers Conference), which took place in October 2008.
“The business analyst is an under-served role, and a good opportunity for the product,” said Brad Lovering, a Microsoft technical fellow leading the Oslo effort. Don Box, a partner architect at CSD who is working on the Oslo language stack, added, “We’re trying to make it simple to get an idea out of your brain and onto a hard disk.”
The Oslo tool allows users to capture domain knowledge in domain-specific views. The tool also will be useful for more advanced diagramming, such as enabling the development of BPMN (business process modeling notification) workflows and UML (Unified Modeling Language) services. (Eweek)
I believe this is an absolutely great tool because people who are less experienced in modeling will deal with a less complex, more automotive and inclusive process. Oslo will also change who can develop applications, what sorts of applications can be modeled and how quickly new applications can be modeled. Less experienced developers would definitely benefit from such a tool. Oslo makes it easier for people to write things down in ways that make sense for the domain they are working in. In other words, you can be a programmer without knowing it !

Google Adwords

Google Adwords is a system created by Google that helps with marketing/advertising products and services in the Google Search Engine, and its affiliate sites.
Google Adwords does this by using the placed text ad that appears when someone searches for phrases that are related to one's products and services - and they ultimately display as a sponsored link. The way Google Adwords works is under a pay per click basis and you only pay the amount per person clicking on your ad (that you have initially bid for per click) as a result of a web search.
These ads are in text format and consist of a title line followed by two short descriptive lines afterwards and additionaly have a URL link to a website or a specific website page.
These ads will be shown on results page that the customer wants them to appear in.

Google wave is an awesome tool of communication. It pretty much combines email, instant messaging, chat and social networking into one pot! And the best of all: Its in real time!!!
According to my research I found the following overall review on Google Wave:
Bottom Line of Google wave is:

A combination of e-mail, instant messaging, and real-time document sharing, Google Wave is really only an intriguing technology demonstration at this point. Its real value may become evident when third-party developers take advantage of its open API.

Pros
The next generation of instant messaging. Drag and drop files for collaboration.

Cons
Lots of bugs and crashes. No voice chat. Waves can quickly get messy and disorganized, especially with many participants.

Network Neutrality

Network Neutrality's main focus is to reinterate the Internet's main job of forwarding packets toward their source without picking and choosing between packets based on what their source is, where they are headed to and even their content. This is creating competiton just like MyStoreOnline can compete against Wal-Mart, where any blog can compete for readers against the big publishers and even a door for new innovations to enter the marketplace.
The main areas of concern for Net Neutruality comes down to the following questions which determine which side we should really be pushing for:
How will we access it?
How will it be charged?

So which side should I take? Here is what I am concerend about:
That ISPs might end up slowing traffic at peak times, therefore this will take away from the legitimate users... However, I would argue that if net neutrality laws were passed the markets would in fact work to consumers' advantage. ISPs would be forced to minimize disruption to their users, or will end up risking that consumers would switch over to a competitor ISP with a better network. This would cause a better infrastructure and higher internet speeds for all the consumers, no matter how much bandwidth they use.

Our guest speaker last speak gave us further insight on Semantic Web. The most interesting part of the presentation to me was popular choices for schemas that include:

-FOAF
-Creative Commons: (Embeds RDF in mbps)
-Music Brainz
-DC: Dublin Care
-RDF

Schemas are sometimes called vocabularies, and there are many many schemas!
We also discussed OWL and SPARQL.

SPARQL, is a query language and data access protocol for the Semantic Web. SPARQL is defined in terms of the W3C's RDF data model and will work for any data source that can be mapped into RDF.

OWL:• OWL stands for Web Ontology Language
• OWL is built on top of RDF
• OWL is for processing information on the web
• OWL was designed to be interpreted by computers
• OWL was not designed for being read by people
• OWL is written in XML
• OWL has three sublanguages
• OWL is a W3C standard

OWL is a part of the "Semantic Web Vision" - a future where:

As far as quality is concerned, we can never achieve TV quality for web videos. This is mainly due to bandwidth limitations and the results of video compression.
In order to improve web video quality, there are certain procedures for the compression practices. As we know, Video can capture only two dimensions of the world. Therefore a certain percentage of quality of images and sounds will be lost as we cant capture all three dimensions. If we use a higher quality camera, we will be able to minimize the loss of quality. Additionally in order to deliver video on the web, compression is a necessity. This will reduce the data information and amount again, therefore having an impact on video quality. This is why proper compression needs to take place in order to keep a good quality in place at the same time.

According to our research we found out that there are two main types of web vidoes: streaming and progressive download.

This is the preferred method for larger files. The streaming is live and is delivered in realtime online. It takes less time to download and end users will not need to download the entire thing in order to view it.

With progressive downloads. we have to make sure of the type of internet connection that the end user will have to view the video. This method is not desirable for users with a smaller bandwidth. At the end of the day, a copy of the file will be copied in the users personal computer. Therefore with larger videos, this will take up a lot of space on the end user's side.

Software as a Service

When you are so used to something that works really good for you, there really is no reason to look for new things out there, right? :)
Some like me would probably agree!
I don't think at this point it would be a good idea to create software that would beat Microsoft Office products. Everyone is so used to them and using anything else would be difficult to get used to!
I looked at Zoho and Google Docs tonight and do realize that there are some formatting features exist in Zoho for instance, that make life easier compared to using excel. I like how there are images in fields too in Google Docs !

Zoho or Google Docs? Both offer completely browser-based office applications like a word processor and spreadsheet, as well as communication tools like chat and email, as well as collaboration tools like project managers and wikis. In Zoho Spreadsheets are also relatively much better than Google spreadsheets with a lot of options.
I think that Zoho has more features than Google's offerings, but individual users are more likely to explore Google apps because they've already got a Google account for Gmail.

Something cool to keep in mind about both of these applications is that they don't require you to install anything on your computer except your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox etc.) All you need is an internet connection, and your browser!!!

Rich Media: Video Broadcasting on the web

Interesting Video!
Before the show even started, the first thing I noticed was the advertising. It is absolutely brilliant to advertise prior to the show that is being broadcast, because that is where the attention on the audience is. I have to admit that the commercials that come in the middle of the program are kind of annoying. But think of it this way...they are not as many as the actual commercials on T.V.
Streaming sites like Hulu, CBS, ABC, and others have proven that savvy audiences are turning to their computers for entertainment, and in a way that's profitable.I think that even though the shows are available at free cost to the end user, all of the advertisement would make up for any costs associated with video broadcasting on the web. If anything, it is extra money for the TV Station !!! So basically in simple terms, cable companies are losing here !

Due to the horrible flooding conditions in Atlanta, I was unable to attend class. Dr. Piercy mentioned that Rich Media was discussed.
I believe various websites were viewed in class as well that related to Rich Media.
So what is Rich Media? Rich media is an Internet advertising term for a Web page ad that uses advanced technology such as streaming video , downloaded applet s (programs) that interact instantly with the user, and ads that change when the user's mouse passes over it. For example:

* An ad for a Hollywood movie that inclues a streaming video sample of a scene from the movie
* A mouse cursor that is changed to an image on a particular Web site if the user requests it (for example, a cursor that changes to a tiny red question mark on a site like whatis.com)
* A standard-size banner ad that includes an inquiry form about ISDN installation, capturing the user's filled-in personal information, and telling the user they will be contacted by a company representative - all simply by interacting with an ad on an online publisher's Web page

Advertiser servers of rich media ads that use Java applets or components may also serve regular GIF images to people whose browsers don't support Java well.

Twitpic is a great tool to upload and distribute pictures in near real-time as an event is taking place. Twitpic could be used independently of Twitter as well. This is in a way similar to Flickr. However several characteristics make this site a companion for Twitter. Comments to photographs are sent as a reply tweet.
According to my research, Twitpic was started in 2008 by Noah Everett.

I have always used my cellphone to take instant pictures and send off to my freinds/family. It would be nice to use twitpic to send pics with a nice and short explanation. Good thing is that the pics would be stored just like a flickr account, and I could even print them whenever I want!

I personally believe that Twitter is a great tool for companies, only if it is used for the right purposes!

Some Tips:

1) If you are in sales and want to monitor what’s being said about your customers to help them protect their brands, twitter could be a great tool for that!

2) If you want to locate certain vendors, partners, and employees for your organization, using twitter is fast and easy. You can use it as a great directory.

3) Twitter is like a free marketing tool ! It could be a great tool promote products and services for any business/organization.

4) Using the strawpoll feature, companies can create mini polls into their twitter stream. This is great for instant feedback on any surveys/polls.

5) I just realized that there is a tweetajob feature as well. Companies can get and fill current job openings with tweetajob.

I did not have a twitter account, but I am so happy that this was a part of our assignment, as I hear about it EVERYWHEREEEEEEEE !!! A couple nights ago, we went to Best Buy, and I noticed that on the door, it said "follow us on twitter". Tonight, I actually opened an account and searched them, and sure enough I saw their info :)

Using Twitter was quite easy. I actually found the design to be very user-friendly.
The following were some of the interesting features of how to post and use Twitter:

- The INVITE phone number feature: It will send an SMS invite to a friend's mobile phone.

- The FOLLOW username: It allows you to start receiving notifications for a specific person on your phone.

-D username + message: It sends a person a private message that goes to their device, and saves in their web archive.

- I also found the specific standard of limiting the messages to 160 characters smart. Because if the purpose is just to provide status, then it totally makes sense to keep a limit! Since status updates are done through text messages at times, this is an absolutely great limit!

Client Server Network

One of the subjects that was discussed in class last week was the Client Server network and their relationship.
Since this whole technology field is kind of new for me, I researched more and learned that a Client Server Network is a computer network in which one centralized, powerful computer (called the server) is a hub to which many less powerful personal computers or workstations (called clients) are connected. The clients run programs and access data that are stored on the server.
When you compare the Client Server network to a peer-to-peer network, it is different. A peer-to-peer network on the other hand is a network of personal computers, each of which acts as both client and sever, so that each can exchange files and email directly with every other computer on the network. Each computer can access any of the others, although access can be restricted to those files that a computer's user chooses to make available. Peer-to-peer networks are less expensive than client/server networks but less efficient when large amounts of data need to be exchanged.

I enjoyed our guest speaker as well. All the cool things about the future of iphones is fascinating! Holding an iphone in front of a store and seeing their coupons and address appear instantly on the screen was a cool one that was discussed! Absolutely amazing!!!

After navigating the Opera website,I learned more about the different products that are offered through their company. According to their site, The world’s most popular mobile Web browser with over 30 million users is Opera Mini 4.2.
Opera Mini enables you to take your full Web experience to your phone. It is faster mobile internet as data is compressed before being sent to your phone...and of course Opera Mini is free to download. The Opera Browser is fast, powerful and efficient. The new Opera Presto 2.2 engine in Opera 10 is up to 40% faster on resource-intensive pages such as Gmail and Facebook. I guess those are sites that everyone would like to have fast access to :)
Opera does have Educational Resources. Opera Education is Opera Software’s outreach program for universities, schools, and other educational institutions. They do university tours and seminars, and could be an addition to computer labs at school and they have campus representatives as well.

Looking forward to seeing our guest speaker tonight and learning more about this software.

My Wikipedia Experience!

I searched on the Persian Language and wanted to update some capitalizations on the page. Initially, I wanted to update the page without becoming a member, but figured the features available as a member could make this experience better. On this note, I became a member and searched the Persian Language page and edited, saved my changes and previewed the changed page and there it was!
I thought it was an easy process. Found it interesting because I got to see the html coding and edited the page through there. Plus, seeing some familiar tags from the html trainings was fun too!

Porter's five force Model Criticisms?

I missed last class as I had to fly out to Ohio for a family emergency. However I did ask my sister (Rita) what topics were covered in class and she mentioned a big chunk of time was dedicated to talk about Porters five forces and six forces model. So I decided to do a little research and have something on my blog in regards to this topic.

Based on my research there are criticisms out there on regards to the model. According to Stewart Neill, Kevin P. Coyne and Somu Subramaniam the three major crticisms are :

That buyers, competitors, and suppliers do not interact
It creates barriers to entry)
Low uncertainty allows participants in a market to plan and respond to competitive behavior.
Here is an interesting fact/Example I found on a website related to Porter's six force model:

"Intel Corporation is the world's largest semiconductor company and the inventor of the X86 architecture series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers....
.According to most references, the sixth force is government or the public. Martyn Richard Jones, whilst consulting at Groupe Bull, developed an augmented 5 forces model in Scotland in 1993, it is based on Porter's model, and includes Government (national and regional) as well as Pressure Groups as the notional 6th force. W3C and Meta tag

If W3C validator did not validate the html document for no character encoding, this can be correcte by inserting a meta tag.
Meta tag? It means information about information. tags that are invisible to users but explain things to client apps
Meta elements are generally used to specify things such as keywords, author, last modified, and other metadata.
The meta tag always goes inside the head element. Search engines use meta data for example for keyword search.

Ocarina!!!

So every week we will be exposed to different, interesting iphone applications.
last week we were introduced to Ocarina.
I was quite amazed with this music app for the iphone because it was a whole lot different than the others, you will have to blow in the phone! This iPhone application was developed by Smule and it pretty much turns your iPhone into a musical wind instrument plus you can even see and share your music with people all around the world with their Network technology. So if someone in Africa is playing their Ocarina, you will see little notes coming up from that area on the globe. VERY COOL! This application combines tilting and touching and blowing and all together this will create the sounds. It is just like playing a flute but a digital version, you place your hands on the holes on the screen. I look forward to learning about cool, different apps every week!

Our first class started off with an interesting group activity, and at the end we did learn that in the world of the internet, comes many technologies,development tools, uses and social/business issues. Our group provided one example of internet technology which was VoIP. Voice over Internet Protocol is simply the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks. Due to the low cost of this technology compared to traditional telephone networks, it is in high demand of consumers. In fact, If you have a fast Internet connection (DSL or cable) you can make PC-to-PC phone calls anywhere in the world for free! If you would like to make a PC-to-phone connection, however, there's usually a charge for this but definitely much cheaper than your regular phone service.
